Crowns

• Crowns cover the entire tooth in order to restore weak, broken or decayed teeth. 
• Crowns can be made of many different materials including metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), and all ceramic or porcelain crowns. 
• Crowns take 2 appointments to complete: 
  • First appointment: the dentist will complete the tooth preparation, take an impression and place a temporary crown. 
  • Second appointment: The dentist will remove the temporary crown, ensure the definitive crown, which is made by our lab, fits well before it is cemented or bonded permanently to the tooth. 
• Temporary Crown Instructions
  • Don’t chew until the anesthesia (numbness) wears off. Be careful not to bite your cheek or tongue! Check the temperature of liquids before consuming them!
  • Do not eat hard or sticky food. It’s best to eat on the opposite side of your mouth.
  • Do not floss the temporary but please continue to brush normally.
  • Taking some Tylenol or Advil after the procedure will prevent sensitivity. It’s normal to feel some sensitivity for several days after the procedure.
